Full Closure of Westbound Interstate 66 Overnights Next Week

Dulles Corridor Metrorail construction will implement a full closure of westbound I-66, between Route 267 and Route 7, from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday, July 8, through Friday, July 13. These closures are necessary to install acoustical barriers on the new Metrorail aerial guideway (flyover bridge) that crosses the highway. Traffic is not allowed to flow under active construction for public safety reasons.

Cooling Centers in Dranesville District
Most of the public facilities in McLean and Great Falls have not had power. Fortunately, we were able to get the McLean Community Center and the Spring Hill Recreation Center power restored on Tuesday afternoon. These sites are now available as cooling centers. In addition, Lewinsville Presbyterian Church is open as a cooling center. Also, the Town of Herndon has informed me that it is operating a cooling center at the Herndon Community Center.

From Supervisor Foust: Power Outages and Other Storm Damage

My office is continuing to work with Dominion Virginia Power to restore power across Dranesville. We know that everyone without power is suffering, so we are committed to do everything we can to make sure that Dominion is on top of this situation.

Dear Dranesville Resident,

I hope that this message finds you safe.

In the wake of this historic “derecho” weather event there are many in the Dranesville district and throughout the County that remain without power, many intersections that are still dark and many routes still impassable. Some communities may still have "boil" water restrictions in effect.

For those of you whose homes are still without power:

Boil Water Advisory Update for Falls Church Water Utility Customers in Tysons, Vienna, and Dunn Loring

Storm Aftermath as of 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 2

The City of Falls Church has issued the following adivisory update for Boil Water Advisory Update for Falls Church Water Utility Customers in Tysons, Vienna, and Dunn Loring http://www.fallschurchva.gov/content/newsmedia/2012releases/07-july/boilwaterupdate_2012july1.pdf.

Out of an abundance of caution, the Falls Church Water Utility advises water customers in portions of Tysons Corner, Vienna, and Dunn Loring to use boiled tap water or bottled water for drinking and cooking purposes as a safety precaution. Customers are advised not to drink tap water without boiling it first. Failure to follow this advisory could result in stomach or intestinal illness. Those in the Advisory Area should prepare to boil water at least through Monday night, July 2. This is the timing needed for proper testing. Families should be prepared. Instructions and maps of the Advisory Area are available on the City’s website, www.fallschurchva.gov/WaterBoil

Very Tiny Dog Found in Pimmit Hills - Update

June 29 UPDATE--We're glad to report that the dog has been reunited with his owner.

DOG FOUND

A very tiny Chiwawa dog was found roaming the streets around Leonard Road on Thursday, June 28. It has no dog tag.

If you are the owner or if you know who owns the dog, please have them call 703-790-8561, 240-485-8511 or 703-734-0402. If no owner is found, we'll have to drop the dog off at the pound. Please forward this information to any dog owners you know in Pimmit Hills.

Dogs in Fairfax County are not allowed to roam around unleashed without their owners. Please also make sure your pet has a tag so if they get lost, you can be contacted right away.

McLean Area Meeting Scheduled to Discuss Fairfax Connector Service Changes

From Supervisor John Foust: The Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) will hold a public meeting in McLean on Tuesday, June 26 to discuss proposed Fairfax Connector service changes and future bus service plans.

Buddie Hunt Jr. of Bethune Street

PHCA received word that long-time resident Buddie Hunt, Jr. of 7413 Bethune Street, passed away on June 21, 2012. There will be a viewing on Monday, June 25 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Murphy's Funeral Home in Falls Church. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, June 22 at 11:00 am at Murphy's Funeral Home followed by interment at King David's Memorial in Falls Church.

Sections of Area Roads to Close Briefly Saturday Night

SECTIONS OF RTE. 66, RTE 267 IN McLEAN AREA OF FAIRFAX COUNTY TO CLOSE BRIEFLY LATE SATURDAY NIGHT FOR TRANSFORMER MOVEMENT

Brief Road Closures Associated With the Transport of Electric Substation Transformer

WHAT: Dominion Virginia Power will move a large transformer from the Idylwood Substation off of Shreve Road to the new Reddfield Substation at the West Falls Church Metro Station rail yard located near I-66 and Rt. 267 in McLean overnight tomorrow night. The move will require police to briefly close of two roadways.

WHEN: Sunday, June 17, 2012 Starting at 12:01 AM

WHERE: Police will close a section of Route 66 westbound while the transport carrying the transformer is in motion on that roadway. That should take approximately 15 minutes.

Then, Route 66 will reopen and a section of Route 267 southbound will be closed to allow transport of the transformer, which should take approximately 15 minutes.

The transport will travel from Shreve Rd. to Route 7 North, make a U-turn at Idlywood Road and then travel eastbound in the westbound lane of Interstate 66, to the guardrail at the base of the bus ramp from Route 267 to westbound I-66.

The guardrail will be removed and transport vehicles will cross over to the bus ramp, go the wrong way up the bus ramp and continue traveling north on the southbound side of Rt 267 to the entrance of the substation.

NOTE: The transport will be accompanied by escort vehicles and Fairfax County police.

Pimmit Hills

Pimmit Hills, founded in 1950, is located next to the Tysons Corner area in Virginia and is one of the largest communities in Fairfax County with over 1,640 homes.
