Public Hearings on Changes to Toll Rates in the Dulles Corridor

Join Your Neighbors TONIGHT at 7:00 pm on Hileman Road for National Night Out

Tonight's event is a great way to meet your neighbors and strengthen the bonds of our community -- and don't miss out on all the fun!

Starting at 7 pm tonight (August 7) Hileman Road (near intersection with Friden Drive) will be blocked off so the people of Pimmit Hills can celebrate "National Night Out!"

It's coming: The Pimmit Hills community event of the summer--National Night Out this Tuesday, August 7 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Hileman Road near Friden Drive (map).

Held in towns all over the country, this annual event encourages neighbors to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside together in a stand against crime.

The Pimmit Hills Citizens Association is the host of our event and the fun starts at 7 pm. There will be cool popsicle treats, kids games, chalk art, a hula-hoop contest and the always popular ‘cake walk’ game.

Valentino the Chiwahwa is Lost Again

Valentino, the very tiny chiwahwa, got loose again. If you find him roaming the neighborhood, please contact Karen Rocha of 7617 Leonard Drive, phone numbers 571-338-0782 or 917-396-8669. He also has a unique trait- he does not have a tail.

National Night Out in Pimmit Hills is Coming Soon!

National Night Out PictureThe Pimmit Hills Citizens Association will participate again this year in the nation-wide 29th Annual National Night Out event, held on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 by hosting a big neighborhood block party to be held on Hileman Road in Pimmit Hills, which will be blocked off for the event.

The fun starts at 7 pm and goes until 9 pm. There will be cool popsicle treats, kids games, chalk art, a hula-hoop contest and the always popular ‘cake walk’ game. Local businesses and organizations have been invited to set up booths.

Everyone in Pimmit Hills is invited -- homeowners and renters, families and singles, adults and kids, dogs and cats. It’s a great time to meet your neighbors! Our local police will also stop by.

Dear Dranesville Resident,

Welcome to the July issue of the Dranesville Dispatch (.pdf).

The June 29 Derecho storm and accompanying record-breaking high temperatures severely impacted many Dranesville residents. This edition of the Dispatch contains a section devoted to the storm and its aftermath.

In other news, I’m pleased to announce that several new pedestrian/bicycle projects have been funded for Dranesville as part of the County’s Four-Year Transportation Plan. Also, the Metropolitan Airport Authority announced that it will be installing new sound walls along several sections of the Dulles Toll Road as part of the Metro Silver Line project. As previously announced, the Virginia Department of Transportation will be installing new sound walls along the Connector Road path of the new rail line.

Helicopter Noise Forum in McLean on July 26

Tired of low-flying helicopters rattling your house and windows? Congressman Frank Wolf and Delegate Barbara Comstock are hosting a Helicopter Noise Forum in McLean on Thursday, July 16 at 7:30 pm at the McLean Community Center, 1234 Ingleside Drive, McLean, VA.

Also hosting the forum are our Dranesville Supervisor John Foust and Behram Shroff of the McLean Hamlet Citizen Association.

Countywide Transit Network Study

From Fairfax County: The Fairfax County Department of Transportation is beginning the Countywide Transit Network Study to determine the type of transit systems needed to accommodate desired economic growth throughout the county over the next several decades.

The study will develop recommendations for where Metrorail should be extended, where streetcar or light-rail systems are appropriate, and where dedicated lanes that allow buses to move faster could go. The study will also recommend how the system can be phased in and funded over time.

The purpose of the Countywide Transit Network Study is to establish a network of high quality transit corridors in a cost-effective way to serve the county’s needs to accommodate planned growth over the long term.

The study has three primary objectives:

2011 Fairfax County Demographic Reports Now Available

From Fairfax County: The Fairfax County Demographic Reports 2011 is now available.

The Demographic Reports is an annual publication that contains estimates and forecasts of population, households and housing units by sub area of the county.

It also contains information on housing characteristics such as types of units, age and market value information.

Other information in the report includes residential development activity and nonresidential gross floor area.

These data are represented by supervisor districts, towns, planning districts, human services regions, ZIP codes and census tracts.

Hot Weekend Temperatures Forecasted

Stay Safe and Cool With These Tips

The record-breaking heat wave will continue into the weekend, with temperatures on Saturday in the triple digits and a forecasted heat index of about 115⁰ F.

The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. The Fairfax County Health Department encourages residents to take these steps to stay safe and comfortable during these hot summer days.

Reduce/Alter Outdoor Activities
Children, the elderly and individuals with heart or respiratory ailments, emphysema, asthma or chronic bronchitis should reduce outdoor activities.

Pimmit Hills, founded in 1950, is located next to the Tysons Corner area in Virginia and is one of the largest communities in Fairfax County with over 1,640 homes.
